The insulated electrical wires can be classified in numerous ways. Some of these are the following:

  • The environment in which they are installed: homes, industries, indoors, outdoors, submerged, etc.
  • The degree of flexibility or stiffness of the cables.
  • The voltage level of service for which they are designed.
Regarding the last criterion, there is no single standard for sorting by range voltage levels and each country sets its own standards based on existing rules or standards.
