General Cable Introduces Its Tight Buffer Distribution Interlock Armored Cable
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KENTUCKY, April 12, 2007 -- General Cable is pleased to offer its Tight Buffer Distribution Interlock Armored Cable, a flexible, easy-to-use Type OFCR/OFCP fiber premise cable. The cable is engineered for installation in any premises location when installed in accordance with NEC article 770 (b) and 770-53 (b), intrabuilding voice or data communications backbones, and in harsh premises environments requiring heavy-duty protection.
Tight Buffer Distribution Interlock Armored Cable may be used in open tray applications and provides heavy-duty protection in harsh industrial environments, making it suitable for even the toughest applications. Its crush resistance is doubled due to its interlock armor, compared with the standard cable in a plastic innerduct. The interlock armored cable, whose glass is supplied by Corning™ Optical Fiber, is available as either indoor- or outdoor-rated and includes an outer flame-retardant jacket, which is available with a Low-Smoke, Zero-Halogen (LSZH) chemical-resistant protection as well.
Choosing General Cable’s Tight Buffer Distribution Interlock Armored cable is the right decision not only for safety and durability, but also because the need for conduit is eliminated, cutting installation time and expense. This ultimately allows a contractor to purchase less material and make only one pull during installation. The overall installation cost savings for riser and plenum cable is estimated at 45.79% and 72.98% respectively, versus a traditional innerduct installation.
Additionally, the Interlock Armored Cable requires less space during installation due to the outer diameter of the cable being almost one inch smaller than standard innerduct cable. It is available in single mode and multimode, both 62.5 micron and laser-optimized 50 micron.
Our interlock armored fiber cables are the ideal construction for industrial applications requiring metallic armor, offering greater flexibility than standard corrugated steel armored cables,” said Greg Carnes, General Cable’s Product Manager, Fiber Cables. Its growing popularity in riser and plenum spaces is directly related to its smaller size, flexibility and lower costs over conventional installation methods.”
General Cable offers a full range of fiber optic cable solutions, including premise and outside plant conventional, rugged and hybrid cables, QPL certified military cables, as well as the advanced Blolite™ air blown fiber system.
