HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KENTUCKY, April 21, 2010 – General Cable is pleased to announce that the Wire & Cable Manufacturers’ Alliance (WCMA) has named Mike Murphy, Vice President, Sales, Gepco® Brand Products, as a recipient of one of its 2010 Distinguished Career Awards. The 26th Annual Awards Dinner and Investiture Ceremony honoring Mike will take place on April 24, 2010, in Hartford, Connecticut.

“Mike is a legend in the industry and has been a tremendous positive influence on General Cable in his eight years with the company,” said Greg Lampert, President and Chief Executive Officer, General Cable North America.  “Mike was instrumental in leading our Data communications sales force transformation six years ago and has been a key catalyst in our resurgence of Carol Electronics over the last eight years.”

“With all that he has done for General Cable, perhaps Mike’s greatest legacy will be the people that he has attracted to the company that are current and future leaders in our sales and marketing organizations,” continued Lampert.

After being nominated, Murphy’s name was submitted to a Selection Committee of over 100 prior Award recipients. After reviewing the ballot results, the former recipients on the WCMA Board of Directors selected the new yearly recipients based on strong character and credibility as well as their significant commercial or technical contributions over a minimum 25-year industry career.

Over the years, Murphy has held senior-level management positions in wire and cable marketing, sales, engineering and manufacturing.  His most recent accomplishment is the successful integration of Gepco® International, an industry-leading manufacturer and provider of high-end cabling solutions for the professional broadcast and entertainment markets, into General Cable.  He has been Vice President of Sales, Gepco International Products for General Cable Corporation since August 2009.  Prior to that, he was Vice President of Sales, Electrical and Electronic Distribution since 2006.

In 1978, Murphy joined Belden and held positions in manufacturing, engineering and served 10 years as Vice President of Sales and Marketing.  Murphy joined CommScope in 1998 as Vice President of Sales and Marketing for LAN and Fiber products. In 2000, he worked as a consultant for ADC for one year.
