GENERAL CABLE FEATURES PROSPARK® COIL-ON-PLUG IGNITION INSULATORS

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KENTUCKY, November 1, 2005 — General Cable, the market leader of ignition wire sets, is featuring its new ProSpark® Coil-On-Plug (COP) Insulators to meet its customers’ needs for complete applications management in this ignition system component category.  This ProSpark Coil-On-Plug Insulator line is a natural extension of the Company’s ignition wire set program due to the latest ignition system technology shift where more new cars are being manufactured using Coil-On-Plug technology each year.

“In 2004, new car production utilizing COP technology was approaching 60 percent and in five years we expect this number to increase to 70 percent,” said Stu Bartsch, Product Manager, Automotive Products, for General Cable.  “Currently, the solution in the automotive aftermarket is to replace a COP Insulator with a complete coil and insulator assembly.  This is costly, and most times unnecessary, since coils typically do not fail, but insulators are often damaged during a tune-up.  Our new product line offers a more cost-effective solution.”

"Our line of COP Insulators will be expanded with all new car introductions and maintained in the same manner that we manage our traditional ignition wire set line,” added Roger Roundhouse, General Cable’s Vice President and General Manager, Automotive and OEM Products.  “We continuously review our automotive aftermarket product lines to maintain 98 percent vehicle coverage for the worldwide ‘car parc’ and service our customers at the same superior level they are accustom to receiving from General Cable.”
